E-books and e-readers

Some say that computers and internet will put an end to News and literature printed in paper. Whereas books are still being sold by millions, it is true that a new competitor has appeared: the ebook. An ebook is a text based publication in digital form, readable on computers or other digital devices. They represent today, in the US, some 8.5% of all books sold. One of its advantage vis a vis the printed book is that no physical storage space is needed, nor the use of paper (ecological reasons, we may say); in addition, ebooks may cost much less than printed books. There is a con, however, which is that it may result tiresome to read a whole book from a computer. Trying to solve this, a gadget appear, called the e-reader, which is a special monitor to make it easier for ebooks to be read. The best known ereaders are the Amazon Kindle model, the Sony´s PRS-500, and the Barnes & Nobles Nook, whereas the multi-function Apple´s iPad is, among other things, an ereader, too.
There are several web pages where you can download ebooks, either for free or paying for them. One of this pages is www.free-ebooks.net, where you can open a free account and download up to 5 ebooks in pdf format, for instance, a month, or an unlimited downloads if you read them online. In addition, you can subscribe for a premium account, which, for a price, would give you additional services. If you want to buy a ereader, try the web page www.ebook-reader.com, and get informed about all of such items that are being sold in the online market.
